How to build a wardrobe on a budget

Whether you're a seasoned carpenter or a DIY newbie, the construction of a closet system is one of the most rewarding projects you can take on around your home. You have many options for building a closet system, and what you choose will depend on your specific needs. If you'd like to order your closet online and pick it up at our K & R Master Carpentry location, we offer that option. And all of our closets come in a white finish and are custom built to order. Here are the steps you can consider on how to build a closet system.

1.What Are Your Needs?

When designing your closet space, think about what kinds of clothes you wear most often and where they should be stored. If pants or dresses take up the bulk of your wardrobe, for example, a taller hanging section might make sense for you. On the other hand, if you live in t-shirts and jeans, a shorter hanging section with more shelf space might work better.

We all want to be organized, but it can be hard. Well that's why you can create a line of DIY closet systems that is custom-built to fit your needs, or can be ordered online and picked up from our location.

2. Determine If You Need a Walk-In or Reach-In Closet System

Walk-in closets are ideal for spaces that have large wall openings or windows, while reach-in systems work better in smaller spaces such as bathrooms and laundry rooms. If you are planning on installing a closet system in a room with limited space, then a wardrobe would be best suited for your needs and can be gotten at our closet system online design.

3. Choose Your sizes and configurations

Now go ahead and choose the sizes and configurations you would like in your closet space note that all of the closets come in a white finish and many sizes are available. For examples we have a Double hanging unit so if you would like to hang cloths on the top and bottom which is available in 24” wide & 30” wide All units are 16” deep and 84” tall and are pre-assembled in sections, which means no assembly required.

4. Measure Your Space

Before you begin anything else, you need to know how many shelves and how much hanging space you'll need. Measure the width and height of your closet and make sure that the measurements are accurate. To make things easy we put together a measurement guide that will show you how to measure your space before you start ordering your closet online.

Things to keep in mind while measuring

  • Measure your wall over-all size

  • Choose your preferred closet configurations

  • Each configuration comes in many sizes. Choose the preferred size.

  • Add up your selected configurations sizes and make sure they fit on the overall wall.

  • If you have an L shape wall, minus 24" from overall wall size before adding your closet
